GREEK I COURSE DESCRIPTION

Objectives:
1. Learn the Greek alphabet and script and build a vocabulary of about 500 words.

2. Read through the gospels of Mark and John by the end of the course.

3. Master finite verbs.

4. Master the grammar of Greek nouns, pronouns, prepositions, adjectives, and adverbs.

Method:
The method of teaching will be to mix equally the conventional teaching of New Testament Greek with a conventional textbook and reading Greek Bible.

Requirements:
1. Attendance at 85% of class times or more.

2. A grade of at least 70% on written and oral tests.

Time Requirements Per Week:
2 hours class time.

2 hours individual time.

Course Length:
24 weeks.

Required Texts:
UBS Greek Bible or equivalent.

Prerequisites:
None, but Hebrew I, II, and III or two years of Biblical Hebrew at the college level are highly recommended.

Hebrew III Course Description

Objectives:
1. Learn basic Hebrew syntax and build a vocabulary of about 3000 words.

2. Read from Psalms through the end of the writings, Chronicles, by the end of the course.

3. Be able to speak Modern Hebrew in conversations comfortably in simple conversations.

4. Review all Hebrew grammar in the first 12 weeks of class, and learn Hebrew syntax in the last 12 weeks, emphasizing the construct state, conditional sentences, case uses, verb stem uses, and preposition uses, and an introduction to Hebrew poetry.

The method of teaching will be to mix equally three elements: 1)the oral teaching of Modern Hebrew, 2)the conventional teaching of Biblical Hebrew with a conventional textbook, 3)and reading Hebrew Bible.

Hebrew II Course Description

Objectives:
1. Learn basic Hebrew grammar and build a vocabulary of about 2000 words.

2. Read from Joshua through by the end of the prophets, Malachi, by the end of the course.

3. Be able to speak Modern Hebrew in conversations concerning driving, commuting, traveling, and shopping.

4. Achieve mastery of the Hebrew verb.

Method:
The method of teaching will be to mix equally three elements: 1)the oral teaching of Modern Hebrew, 2)the conventional teaching of Biblical Hebrew with a conventional textbook, 3)and reading Hebrew Bible.

Hebrew I Course Description

Objectives:
1. Learn the Hebrew alphabet and script and build a vocabulary of about 1000 words.

2. Read through the entire Pentateuch by the end of the course.

3. Be able to speak Modern Hebrew in simple conversations concerning common things likely to be discussed at home, at meals, and in the classroom. By the end of the fourth week the student should be able to speak and understand enough Hebrew to converse comfortably in class with few reversions back to English, including grammatical terms describing the parts of speech.

4. Achieve mastery of the grammar of Hebrew nouns, pronouns, prepositions, adjectives, and adverbs.

The method of teaching will be to mix equally three elements: 1)the oral teaching of Modern Hebrew, 2)the conventional teaching of Biblical Hebrew with a conventional textbook, 3)and reading Hebrew Bible.
